Stop, Ellen! Detective James shouted as he ran through the mansion's hallway. Ellen clutched the bag, her eyes filled with tears. The clock struck exactly 9. I didn't mean to hurt him! She stopped suddenly, turned toward him, and dropped the bag. Then why lie? Why all the acting? James opened the bag. and found the original letter that had vanished the night of the incident.
The beginning one week earlier, the family of Robert Wilson gathered at his countryside estate to celebrate his 70th birthday. Robert was a strict businessman with a massive fortune and plenty of enemies within his own family. Among the guests, Ellen, his niece, smart and mysterious. Henry, his only son, arrogant and reckless, Rose, his private nurse, quiet but observant, and Detective James, an old family friend invited as a guest of honor.
On the first night, Robert announced he would change his will. The next morning, he was found dead in his study. The clock was stopped at 9. James began the investigation immediately, no signs of forced entry. Window locked, door sealed from the inside. The new will had vanished. Everyone had a motive. Henry would lose his inheritance. Ellen would gain the estate. Rose would be dismissed after the change. But the strange part, the study clock had been broken for years, so who stopped it at 9?
James noticed Ellen acting strangely, avoiding questions, hiding something in her room. He confronted her, but she denied everything, until he found a torn piece of paper behind the fireplace, part of the missing will.
On the final night, James gathered everyone in the lounge. He said, The culprit is among us, and the truth will surface tonight. As everyone stared at him, they heard footsteps upstairs. Ellen was running, carrying the bag she'd hidden all week. And now, we return to the opening scene.
Ending inside the bag was the original letter Robert had written before his death. It wasn't murder, it was a sudden heart attack. Ellen hadn't killed anyone, she hid the letter because she feared Henry would be blamed. James smiled and said, Sometimes fear of the truth is worse than the truth itself. The original will was restored, the estate was fairly divided. Ellen began a new life free from suspicion.
In every mystery, there's one moment that reveals everything. James said as he left the mansion, leaving behind a family finally learning to heal.
