It was close to midnight when Jonathan heard heavy footsteps descending from the upper floor. The problem was, the house had been abandoned for 20 years, and no one lived there but him. His blood froze as he saw a long shadow crawling across the wall, longer than any human could be. The shadow had no head, only a distorted body moving slowly toward the bedroom. Jonathan's eyes widened, sweat dripping down his forehead as the door began to open, slowly, until a cold whisper pierced his ear. We are back, and you will not leave alive. Back to the beginning.
Three weeks earlier, Jonathan, a young writer from Boston, moved to a small town in Vermont seeking peace and inspiration for his new novel. He found an old house for rent at a ridiculously low price, house number 17 on Willow Creek Street. The neighbors avoided talking about it, but the cheap rent and promise of inspiration made him sign the contract immediately.
From the very first night, strange things happened, windows opening on their own, faint sounds like children crying, an unnatural chill in the hallways Jonathan thought it was just his imagination, until one morning he found a word written faintly on the mirror, leave. Jonathan began digging into the town's archives and discovered that the house once belonged to the Harrison family. In 1985, the entire family vanished mysteriously and no bodies were ever found. The police closed the case as unexplained, but locals believed the house was cursed.
Every night, Jonathan heard footsteps upstairs, though he never dared to go up. One night, he decided to face his fear. Carrying a flashlight, he climbed the creaking wooden stairs. There, he found a locked room chained shut. He broke the rusty lock, and a foul stench filled the air.
Inside, the walls were covered with strange drawings, circles, eyes, faceless figures. In the center of the room sat a small wooden box. He opened it and found an old doll with cracked glass eyes. On its chest was carved a name, Elizabeth.
From that night on, the house was never the same. The doll began appearing in different places, once on his bed, once in the kitchen, once at the bathroom door. One night, he woke to find it sitting on his chest, staring at him with empty eyes. He tried to throw it away, but it clung to his hands as if alive.
Then, a childlike voice came from it: Daddy, why did you leave us? The floor shook, the walls began to bleed black water, and the entire house turned into a living nightmare. Jonathan ran toward the door, but it slammed shut behind him with terrifying force, as if the house had swallowed him whole.
The next morning, neighbors found house number 17 quiet, as if nothing had happened, but Jonathan was never seen again. On his desk lay the pages of his unfinished novel, written in trembling handwriting.
The house never lets anyone leave. Whoever enters becomes part of its story.
Since then, anyone who approaches the house hears whispers, We are back, and you will not leave alive. And that's how our terrifying story of house number 17 ends.
Where no one knows if Jonathan was the victim of an ancient curse, or if the house itself is a living entity that devours those who dwell inside.
