Berlin, 2.17am. A black van explodes outside the U-Bahn station. Inside the smoke, a voice crackles through a comms device. Ember fall is active. Target acquired. Ryder is compromised. But Alex Ryder is still breathing, and he's not done yet. Alex jumps from the wreckage, bleeding from his shoulder. He grabs Lena's hand and runs through the alley. Drones hover overhead. Damian's men close in. Lena hacks a streetlight grid mid-run, plunging the block into darkness. Alex whispers, we have 6 hours before Emberfall launches. If we fail, Prague burns. She replies, then we don't fail.
Back to the beginning, three days earlier. Alex is pulled out of retirement by Captain Miller. A rogue agent, Damien Cross, has stolen a prototype weapon called Emberfall, a satellite-based EMP that can wipe out entire cities. Intel says it will be activated in Prague during a diplomatic summit. Alex agrees to one last mission. He's paired with Lena Volkova, a hacker with a criminal past but unmatched skills. They have 72 hours to stop the launch.
They infiltrate a data vault beneath the Reichstag. Lena decrypts Damien's location, a moving train headed to Prague. Alex fights off mercenaries in a brutal hand-to-hand brawl in the subway. Lena disables surveillance using a hacked coffee machine's Wi-Fi.
Prague. They board the train mid-speed using a stolen motorcycle. Inside, Damien taunts Alex. You left the agency, but the agency never left you. A shootout erupts. Inside, a control room with ember falls interface, Damien waiting with a gun to Lena's head. Alex throws down his weapon. Let her go. It's me you want. Damien laughs. I want the world to remember my name. Lena bleeding whispers. Alex, now. Alex triggers a hidden EMP grenade. The room blacks out. In the chaos, Lena bites Damian's arm. Alex tackles him. They fight.
